In order to become PMP® certified you need to fulfill several requirements. To receive latest information on certification procedures and requirements visit the PMI Obtaining Credential and download the PMP HandBook(PDF)file. The following is a summary of criteria you'll need to meet before you can take PMP® exam: Formal project management education*: During the last 8 years you will need to complete 35 hours of formal project management education. This education can include college classes, seminars, workshops, and training sessions. Project Management Work Experience*: If you have a baccalaureate degree or higher, you'll need to have 4,500 hours of project management experience that spans a minimum of three years and no more than six years. For the high school diploma or associate degree holders, you'll need to complete verification forms documenting 7,500 hours of project management experience that spans a minimum of five years and no more than eight years. *If you can not meet any of above described criteria you might consider CAPM® Certification.
